United earned a place in the Emirates FA Cup 1st round proper after a 4-1 win over Winchester City.

Goals from Kalvin Lumbombo-Kalala, Saikou Janneh, and two from Connor Lemonheigh-Evans took the game away from Winchester.

United lined up in a 4-4-2 formation. MacDonald in goal, a back line of Essuman, Niate, Cameron and Davis. Hall and Lemonheigh-Evans in the middle with Edwards and Kalala on the wings. Reid and Janneh led the line.

United were on the front foot for the entire match, with many close calls to scoring more goals. United could have eight or nine but for a stroke of luck in some instances, or a last gasp tackle in others.

They took the lead when a strike from Kalvin Lumbombo-Kalala found the back of the net. It took a touch off Winchester’s Connor Cocklin but the shot was on target and was Lumbombo-Kalala’s first goal in United colours.

Saikou Janneh opened his account for United in the 41st minute and Jamie Reid was the creator. He stood up a cross after getting past his man for Janneh to head in.

United had their third when Connor Lemonheigh-Evans sweeped in from close range. The build-up was pretty exquisite. Lemonheigh-Evans pounced on a chance to break from midfield. The ball was returned to him high up. He took it on the shoulder before clipping the ball with the back of his foot into the stride of Jameie Reid whose shot was saved by Ryan Pryce. Lemonheigh-Evans took his time to find the back of the net when the ball came out to him. Watch that one in the highlights.

Lemonheigh Evans made it 4-0 to United not long after the half-time break with another close range finish. Liam Davis made his way down the left wing and his cutback seemed to be heading to Asa Hall but was left for Lemonheigh-Evans to score his second of the game.

United pushed for further goals but it was Winchester who was to score next.

Goalkeeper Shaun MacDonald dwelt on the ball a little too long after receiving a pass back. The referee judged that he had fouled Jamie Barron inside the area. Joe Hayward scored from the spot.
Hayward’s day was to end prematurely after he was shown his second yellow card of the game in the 80th minute.

Stay tuned for the 1st round draw due to take place on Monday on BBC Two from 7pm!
