United manager Gary Johnson was proud of his side, as they produced a marvellous performance at Gander Green Lane to defeat promotion rivals Sutton United 1-0.

“My thoughts are that we definitely deserved to win the game, that’s what I’m very pleased with,” began Johnson.

“It was nice to get the goal in the 81st minute again, as the other team has only got a little while to try and get the game back. We were the ones with the intent to go and win the game and score a goal. I was really pleased with our intent, and we did create a few chances – probably more than them.”

Although it was captain Asa Hall who notched the decisive strike, the Gaffer heralded the efforts of all his players in securing another vital three points.

“They had a couple of chances as well, which you can expect from a good team, but I think we created a few more, and took the one that mattered. It was a fantastic cross from Randell, and then obviously the skipper comes up with a fine header to win us the game and put us in a good position now.

“I’m very proud of the lads, that’s not an easy game, because a draw would have been a better result for them. At points in the game they were happy with that, but everybody played their part, and I’m very proud of them.”
