It was an exciting time for United’s youngsters on Monday evening, as Torquay United manager Gary Johnson and his assistant, Aaron Downes, joined Head of Youth Chris Todd at the first training session back at South Devon College in our new Youth Development Programme.

Johnson himself was full of enthusiasm, after seeing the next generation of United stars getting back into action after the enforced break in action.

“It is great to see the excitement of the boys coming back and playing football with their friends, you could see they had missed it,” said the United boss.

“I spoke to a committed group of Torquay United AFC youth coaches, and was impressed with the organisation and the coaching given to a group of talented players.

“I am sure they will be looking forward to their games programme, and credit to Toddy and everyone involved, for bringing this new programme to fruition, which the club has been planning for a few months now.”

Head of Youth Todd was just as eager to get back into action.

“It was obviously nice to be back, everybody thoroughly enjoying themselves under the new restrictions. It’s difficult times we are working under, but we did well to get the session on, and making it as safe as possible.

“It was great to have the Gaffer, Downsey and all the staff there in support, they were all there in attendance, and it was a great atmosphere.”
