Forest Green striker Rhys Murphy has come to Plainmoor seeking playing time and goals. The forward joined on loan from Forest Green on Tuesday and the 26 year-old played in last night’s St. Lukes Cup tie against Cullompton Rangers.

“That was my first appearance of the season. It is has been a slow start for me. I had a little injury in pre-season so it was to get some minutes in my legs and to get my fitness up. I have been working hard in training and in the gym while I was recovering from my injury, but you can’t replicate minutes on the pitch.”

“I like to play up front, either as a one or a two off another striker. I’m not really a target man, but I play in the spaces whether that is in behind or coming short. I look to score or create goals which is what you want your forwards to do.”

The pressure to record United’s first three points of the season isn’t lost on Rhys. In coincides with his need to get minutes on the pitch. Murphy started last season very well for Forest Green Rovers in the National League. He netted six times in the Green’s opening nine games.

“I was playing and scoring last season. I was feeling good. That was my first time in the National League so I do have experience of it. I’m hoping to hit the ground running as quickly as I can because the team needs goals. We need results and points.”

“The Gaffer is looking to bring players in and build a team to take us up the table,” added Murphy.” I want to be playing football so it is an opportunity for me to come and play.

Murphy is aware of the success that Kieffer Moore had when he joined United on loan last season. He also knows one member of United’s squad from last season.

“I know Yan Klukowski from playing at York City last season. Other than that there are a few familiar faces from playing against teams down the years.”

We wish Rhys the very best during his time at the Club.
