Torquay United’s pre-season preparations go up a gear tomorrow, as Plymouth Argyle provide the next challenge for Gary Johnson’s side.

Following pre-season victories over Poole Town and Truro City, United will be looking to make it three wins out of three when they host familiar foes on Saturday (3pm KO).

Who’s the Boss?

Ryan Lowe guided Plymouth to promotion to League One in his first season at Home Park; Argyle finished third, the final automatic promotion position. They retained third position after a points per game system determined the final league positions.

Lowe has been at the helm at Argyle since the summer of 2019, signing a new contract in February that will see him remain at Plymouth until at least summer 2024.

Player to Watch

Panutche Camara has established himself as a fan favourite at Argyle following his arrival from Crawley Town at the beginning of last season.

The 24-year-old received his first call up to his national team, Guinea-Bissau in June following an impressive first season at Plymouth.

The midfielder played an important role in last season’s FA Cup run with two of last season’s five goals being scored during FA Cup fixtures.

Played for Both

Ryan Law had a brief loan spell with United towards the end of last season during which he made eight appearances.

The 21-year-old’s impressive performances during his time at Plainmoor earned Law his first league appearance for Argyle in April where he played the full 90 minutes in their final four games of the season.

Law signed a new deal with the Pilgrims in May where he usually plays at left wing-back or full-back depending on formation; he has been at Home Park since the age of eight.

Previous Encounter

United came from behind to claim victory over Devon rivals Argyle in a packed out Plainmoor in the build-up to the 2019/20 campaign.

New signing and then 18-year-old Klaidi Lolos opened the scoring to give the Pilgrims the lead in the fourth minute.

Lowe’s side did not lead for long, however, when Armani Little equalised from a memorable free-kick just outside the box. Jamie Reid then slotted past Palmer to give United the lead in the 14th minute, before Kalvin Lumbombo-Kalala sealed victory for United in the 73rd minute when he caught the away side on the counter-attack to score United’s third goal.
