United enter the home straight of their pre-season campaign when they take on Weymouth FC at the Bob Lucas Stadium on Saturday (kick-off 3pm).
Torquay United player-manager Kevin Nicholson knows Weymouth manager Mark Molesley well.
“Mark Molesley is a good guy and I had some good battles with him as a player along with playing alongside him for the England C team so it will be fun to lock horns as managers,” said Kevin.
Weymouth include ex-Gulls Josh Carmichael and Josh Wakefield in their squad for 2017-18 and the Terras achieved a 10th place finish in the Evo-Stik League Southern Premier Division last time out. They have already beaten Exeter City 1-0 during their pre-season, so United face a tough opponent on Saturday.
“I’m very much looking forward to this test” Nicholson added. “Weymouth is always a tough but nice place to play, always has a decent pitch and a team that will be up for a challenge.
“I’m very pleased with the progression of my lads throughout pre season. They have embraced everything we have thrown at them, bought in to how we want things doing and has improved each day.
“I’ll be looking for the same performance levels as we showed against Plymouth but with a bit more composure around their box and some goals to go with it.”
