Weymouth 0

Torquay United 1

Pittman 47’

A goal from striker Jon-Paul Pittman earned United the win at the Bob Lucas Stadium.

Trialist Rory Fallon started up front for United with Sam Chaney continuing to deputise for the injured left-back Liam Davis. Weymouth had ex-Gulls Josh Carmichael and Josh Wakefield in their starting XI.

There were few chances in the first half. United let Weymouth play a little too much and the Terras were able to create some half-chances. This started in the 5th minute when Josh Wakefield laid the ball off to Callum Buckley whose shot took a slight deflection but was saved by Clarke.

Weymouth continued their bright start to the game when Calvin Brooks delivered a dangerous ball into the box. Harry Baker controlled the ball well but his shot went wide of the target.

Brandon Goodship’s shot from distance was easy to Clarke to claim in the 38th minute.

The half-time break allowed player-manager Kevin Nicholson to rally his troops and the second half was a much different story. While Weymouth didn’t create any clear chances in the first half, in the second, United pushed forward and took control of the game.

United took the lead in the 47th minute thanks to Jon-Paul Pittman’s first goal since joining the Club in mid-June. A ball forward from Josh Gowling was flicked on by Rory Fallon. Pittman out-muscled his marker before slotting past Travers.

For large parts of the second half United were camped inside Weymouth’s territory. United forced them back, and Weymouth had to resort to breakaway chances.

Player-manager Kevin Nicholson brought on Torquay Academy defender Harry Bell, trialist midfielder Sean Downing, and development player Tallan Mitchell in the second half.

United were then comfortable enough to see the game out to clinch the third win of their pre-season campaign.

Thank you to the members of the Yellow Army that made the journey to support the team.
