It’s first versus second on Saturday when United take on Welling at Plainmoor.

TUFC manager Gary Johnson is relishing returning home after three games on the road to take on such a close rival.

“It’s the game you want at this stage,” said Johnson. “We’re in a nice run of form; we’ve had two really good away performance – long trips. Always looking forward to getting back home at Plainmoor. To play the second in the league, although they’ve got two games in hand, this is a key game as far as getting five points clear of them. When you’re at the top every time you get a result you put a bit of distance between you and the chasing pack. That’s really what we’ve got to try and do.”

Welling have three wins, a draw, and a loss from their last five game. Brendan Kiernan is their top scorer with seven National League South goals so far. They have two games in hand over United and have scored thirty-three goals and conceded seventeen. Last Saturday they beat Hungerford 3-1 at home with goals from Bradley Goldberg, Nassim L’Ghoul, and Danny Mills.

“They’re a strong team; they’re a good football team,” said Johnson about Saturday’s opponents. They’re not up there by luck and they’re probably the best team so far that we’re going to face, or one of the best teams that’s for sure. They’ve proven that by being up there. They’ve got a of football and they’re organised and they’re a strong group. Its a good test for both teams.”

United go into the match with a near fully-fit squad. Some players are suffering from colds and they will be assessed prior to kick-off.

Striker Ruairi Keating looks ahead to the match here.
