We caught up with Rory Fallon, Ryan Higgins, and Damon Lathrope to look back at United’s last pre-season match against Truro, and preview Saturday’s National League opener against Tranmere Rovers at Plainmoor (kick-off 3pm).
Rory Fallon on why he signed for TUFC:
“It is being back playing professional football again. That is what spurred me on because at the age of 35 I still have goals to achieve. I still want to do well and I thought this would be a great option.
“The Gaffer was kind enough to come along and meet the lads. I had a week of training here and I just thought they were a great bunch of lads. We have got good facilities and the stadium – the pitch is just immaculate. Everything was perfect for me so I couldn’t really turn it down.
On playing international football once again:
“That is my goal. My goal is to go up with this team and my other goal is to play in another World Cup.”
Damon Lathrope on scoring a cracker against Truro:
“It presented itself, so I just tried to strike it cleanly and it zipped into the top corner – it was nice.”
“I’ve hit the woodwork a fair too many times during my time at the Club. I need to add goals to my game. It doesn’t help that when the team goes forward, I go back, but that is a ‘goal’ this year.
“I’m not going to be running in the box too often, that is fair to say. But with the way the team is set up this season, hopefully I’ll get more opportunities to work the opposition ‘keeper. It is going to be from distance more often than not, but I am aiming for five goals this season and that will be a good haul for me.”
Ryan Higgins on United’s 6-0 win over Truro:
“It gives you a bit of a lift but because the lads have played well together. The goals are good, and we got a clean sheet as well. The team is knitting together nicely and our full focus is on Tranmere”.
On scoring a thunderbolt against the White Tigers:
“I’ve scored a few goals like that and it always seems to be with my left foot. I just drove through and I hit it, and luckily it went into the top corner.”
On Saturday’s big game at Plainmoor:
“Tranmere are going to be a big physical side. The size of the club is enormous and they’re going to try and dominate. The lads are just taking each training session as it comes and then we’ll go into the game focused.”
