United take on 7th place Dagenham & Redbridge eager to claim their first three points of the season.

“I’ve really enjoyed being out there on the training pitch with the players,” said Torquay United head coach Gary Owers in Thursday’s press call, “But it is about getting more points, it is about winning a game and we haven’t achieved that yet.

“Some of the players are returning from injury which is going to help. We have got to try and get them a little bit fitter, and a little bit sharper. We are trying to impose our style, our personalities and our intensity onto the players. Hopefully, over the coming weeks the results are going to turn.”

Owers is very clear on what sort of danger Dagenham will pose.

“Organized, great manager, great man John Still. I have got a lot of time for him. Someone that I have played against over the years and anytime you go to Dagenham, you know that if you come away with anything you have played very well.

“I have expressed to the player, it is about being responsible for your own individual performances.”

United head into Saturday’s fixture with a shorter injury list, but returning players will still be short of match fitness. Yan Klukowski has returned to full training but not soon enough to be considered for Saturday. Damon Lathrope is back in contention after training this week. Jordan Lee is training with Bournemouth for the next couple of weeks before he returns to TUFC. Ryan Clarke is in light training but it will still be a couple of weeks until he moves forward. Sam Chaney, Jon-Paul Pittman, and George Dowling are all projected to return in October.

September has brought two wins for D&R so far. Both came at home with a 3-1 win over Gateshead, and three points against FC Halifax Town by the same score line. Back to back losses against Hartlepool and Sutton United were the Daggers’ first defeats of the season.  Dagenham come into Saturday’s match on the back of a 2-2 away draw against Solihull Moors.
