United are on the road again for Tuesday night’s National League match away to Ebbsfleet United (kick-off 7:45pm).

“[They are] quite solid out of possession,” said Torquay United head coach Gary Owers ahead of tonight’s match. The Gaffer knows plenty about our opposition, having played against them when he was manager of Bath City.

“They normally play 4-4-1-1 and they did very well last season when they got promoted. They have taken that momentum into this season and they are quite difficult to break down. They have had quite a few draws and they are coming off the back of two good victories. One in the FA Cup, which I went to see and one on Saturday. It is a difficult place to go.

“I’ve played against them in the last couple of seasons. I really like the goalkeeper, Nathan Ashmore. He’s a good goalkeeper at this level. They’ve got experience in the team with Danny Kedwell, Andy Drury, and Aaron McLean.

“We’re trying to find a level of consistency. We’re trying to improve standards on the training ground. If they get anywhere near the standards that they did against FC Halifax Town thenwe’ll take something from this game. If we take that forward then we will start to win games. It doesn’t just happen, you have to work hard at it and that’s the time between Saturday’s game finishing and Tuesday night’s game starting – being ready for the start of the game.”

United changed their formation on Saturday. Will the Gaffer keep the same tactics?

“I felt we moved the ball a lot quicker than we have done. We got the ball to the attacking players quicker than we have done. We mixed our play up as well. We hit balls in behind which you have to do in this league and get defenders running towards their own goal.

“I’ll certainly think about playing the same way but it is not 100% that I will because I’ll always have something up my sleeve if I want to change it.”

United will take pretty much the same squad to the match as played against Halifax on Saturday.
