United complete their 2017-18 season with a home match against Ebbsfleet United on Saturday (kick-off 12:30pm).

TUFC head coach Gary Owers is looking forward to an improved performance from his team, and a better game on Saturday than Tuesday night’s 4-3 loss to Guiseley. Ebbsfleet are expecting around 400 Fleet fans to attend as their team aim for a National League play-off place.

“They’ll probably bring more supporters than maybe they would have,” said Gary Owers at his weekly press call. “For us, and I have told every player that was involved [in Tuesday’s game], and every player that wasn’t involved, because you have to ask yourself why you can’t get yourself into contention, how important it is to try and…they’ll never make up for that [Tuesday’s performance], they’ll never be able to make up for that, but at least finish showing that they care. At least showing that they can put in the right amount of effort and commitment and passion one more time.”

The crushing disappointment of relegation to the National League South will stay with the Yellow Army for some time yet.

“The supporters are always the most important people at any club. They are the heart and soul and they’re still going to be the heart and soul of the club moving forward. Everyone is hurting. We have to at some point in the next couple of weeks move forward.”

The Gaffer’s number one priority in the close season is to recruit the players capable of earning promotion from the National League South next season.

“I’m looking for players in all positions,” added Owers. “I’m looking for players that can win the league, simple as that. We’ve got one aim next season that’s to win the league and I know what’ll it take. I need goals in the team at the top of the pitch, there’s been a lack of goals. I need more leadership in the team and I need some men to come and represent the Club.”

Ebbsfleet United are all but guaranteed a place in the National League play-offs this season. Their final position in the table will dictate whether they take a home advantage into the play-off matches. Danny Kedwell has scored 19 National League goals this season reliably backed up by Luke Coulson and Jack Powell with 10 goals apiece.

Josh Gowling and Liam Davis were rested in training this week to make sure they were in contention for a place in Saturday’s squad.  Jakub Sokolik will be unavailable for Saturday’s match because of sickness. Ryan Clarke will be assessed before Saturday after suffering a knock in training.

Please be aware that Saturday’s match is a 12:30pm kick-off. Please spread the word.

There will be a collection made for the Special Care Baby Unit at Torbay Hospital at Saturday’s game.
