Despite many families facing an uncertain Christmas this year, Torquay United AFC has been proud to help spread some positivity during the festive period.
Torbay Food Alliance, in conjunction with Torbay Council, have been working tirelessly in the run-up to the festive period by co-ordinating donations from all across the Bay in order to provide the makings of a Christmas dinner, along with the usual groceries, for those residents who most need it this year.
Also included within the hampers are a number of festive treats to make Christmas that little more special, with Torquay United donating free match tickets to be enclosed with each package.
With each family being invited to one of The Gulls’ January fixtures, the local heroes delivering that seasonal cheer weren’t forgotten either, with the hardworking volunteers also being invited to attend our forthcoming game against Solihull Moors, as guests of the Club.
United Directors George Edwards and Mel Hayman paid tribute to the work of the two groups.
“We’re delighted to have been able to assist these fantastic organisations in making Christmas extra special for local families, and we were only to happy to recognise the hard work of all their devoted volunteers too.
“It’s been very rewarding working together with Torbay Council on this project, and we wish everyone a very happy, and healthy Christmas.”
In addition to this, Monday also saw sets of tickets delivered to children in Torbay Hospital’s Louisa Cary ward, meaning that although they may not be able to experience home comforts at this time of year, every patient on the ward will have a day with their family to look forward to in 2022.
With this week seeing our Online Advent Calendar open its final few doors, there will be further positive news to come, with the Yellow Army continuing to respond in their numbers, in order to help boost the Hospital’s Covid Emergency Appeal – much to the delight of Gulls boss Gary Johnson.
