We caught up with Torquay United Ladies manager Vicki Fannon ahead of TULFC’s Devon Cup Final against Plymouth Argyle THIS Friday.

TULFC have been in wonderful form this season but have been left frustrated by match postponements after the heavy rain in South West.

Get along to Devon FA Headquarters, Coach Road, Newton Abbot, TQ12 1EJ for a 7:15pm kick-off. There will be an entry fee at the gate.

What have you made of your season so far?

The season has been positive, we’ve made steps in the right direction and players continue to develop and make progress. We have still only lost one game all season and are happy with how the team has stayed positive and worked hard. There is still a long way to go, this time last year we had completed our season, this year we are only just over half way!

How frustrating has it been to have fixtures called off because of the rain?

Really frustrating, it’s hard to get into a rhythm and keep up player motivation. We still prepare in the same way but it’s so demoralising when Sunday comes and the game is called off again. I know most teams are in the same boat so it’s effecting us all.

What do you put the success you have had this season down to?

The players. The quality and work rate of some of these girls is phenomenal. Attitudes are important also and something that the team have developed this season. Preparing right is so important and the girls have learnt how to do that better this season.

How is the team looking heading into the cup final?

The team are very excited, it’s our first final for a couple of seasons and we are buzzing it’s against Plymouth. The team are strong and ready to play. It’s not ideal preparation not having a game this but they are focused and preparing well as normal.

What do you make of your opponents?

We have nothing just respect for Plymouth and have a lot of friendships between the two teams. Plymouth play in a higher division than us and are a quality side. They have some incredible players but we feel we know lots about them. Overall we are looking forward to what will be a good final.

The Torquay United Official Supporters’ Club will be there and they’ll be giving out some goodies to Junior Gulls. You can read more about TUOSC here.
