After securing their second trophy of the season against Bridgwater last weekend, Chris Todd’s U18s will be looking to bring the curtain down on an astonishing 2021/22 campaign in style on Sunday afternoon.

Having already secured the South West Counties Youth League title for the first time in the Club’s history last month, the Gary Else Memorial League Cup was then added to the Young Gulls’ trophy cabinet last Saturday, courtesy of a come-from-behind victory over hosts Bridgwater at Fairfax Park.

This Sunday, United will be heading to Coach Road, looking to emulate the achievement of Torquay’s Women, who triumphed over Exeter at the same venue only seven days ago.

This time, Todd’s charges will be taking on Tavistock in the final of the Wotton Printers Devon U18 Youth Cup, after producing a remarkable performance to overcome Plymouth Parkway 7-1 in their semi-final. For their part, Tavistock were also amongst the goals on-route to the showpiece match, recording a 4-1 win over Railway Beacon in order to set up Sunday’s showdown.

“We’re really looking forward to the game, and it’s our last game of the season,” said Head of Youth, Chris.

“Hopefully it goes off to plan and we get another win, and hopefully get the three trophies, so it becomes a very successful season – that’s the aim.

“They’ve worked extremely hard this year, and to finish it off with another win and another trophy would be incredible for them and everybody involved really.”

After such a successful 2021/22 campaign already, it is perhaps fitting that the Young Gulls’ season will end at the Devon FA’s headquarters, providing a suitable backdrop to proceedings.

“It’s a lovely place, it’s good to play there, and they do things properly there with the cup as well, so it’ll be a nice occasion for everyone, and hopefully we do the treble for Torquay.

“We set out – our main aim – was to do really well in the league, but we’ve ended up winning the league, the cup, and the Devon Cup would be the icing on the cake really.”

The Yellow Army will once again be kept fully up-to-date on all the action, with live commentary of the match on TUFC Radio beginning at 2.50pm HERE ahead of kick-off at 3pm, whilst there will also be regular updates via our social channels throughout the game, as well as full match reaction following the full-time whistle.
