There was further pleasing news for United’s Under-18s last weekend, as Chris Tood’s youth team triumphed 7-0 over title rivals Swindon Supermarine.

Despite the very cold and windy conditions, Todd’s young Gulls produced a superb showing at South Devon College on Saturday, as doubles from Lewis Brooks, Sam Stayt and Theo Cadby, combined with another from Harvey Field, sealed an impressive three points against their 2nd-placed opponents.

United’s Head of Youth was delighted with their efforts.

“The boys performed really, really well. It was a very windy day as everyone would know, but when it’s a windy at South Devon, it’s an extra special windy day!

“It was difficult conditions, but the boys performed very, very well in tough conditions. I was really pleased, and they’re a good side – we played them at the start of the season, and it was a close game, so to perform like they did on the day was excellent and I’m very pleased with their development really.”

That result saw Torquay finish the day in 3rd place, three points off leaders Bridgwater as the side continue their marvellous start to the season, which has also seen them reach the FA Youth Cup First Round, with a Devon County Youth Cup Quarter-Final still to come.

“The lads have done extremely, extremely well. It’s a tougher league this year as well, I will say that. The games are definitely more competitive for them, but they just keep performing.

“They’re doing well in all competitions, including also the College football, they’re doing brilliant in that as well. They keep produced at the moment, they’ve got to keep their feet on the ground and keep working hard, they’ve got a lot more, harder, tasks further on down the line this season, but if they keep doing what they’re doing, they wont go far wrong.”

Elsewhere in what was a weather-affected weekend United’s youth department age groups, United’s U12s went down 4-1 away at South Dartmoor Community College against Saints South West Devon, with Charlie Wise briefly reducing the arrears shortly after the interval, before Saints took charge later on.

Meanwhile, our Under-15 side also went goal crazy, as they secured a stunning 11-1 success over South Somerset RTC at Paignton Academy. Goals from Toby Hard (3), Jayden Redwood-Hughes (2), Fergus Brennan-Osment, Freddie Heath, Ellis Drew, Murray Wardle, Alfie Briard and Freddie Swannell did the damage, in a game that rarely saw United’s superiority threatened.
