Torquay United’s Under-18 side laid down an impressive marker for the season ahead on Saturday morning, as they clinched a superb 1-0 friendly win over local rivals Exeter City.

With the behind-closed-doors match taking place at City’s Cliff Hill Training Ground, United’s new-look team gave as good as they got against very strong opponents, before eventually running out worthy winners thanks to Callum Black’s late strike.

Head of Youth Chris Todd was understandably delighted with his side’s efforts.

“It was a nice way to win,” began Todd.

“Considering we’ve been off a long time, I was really impressed with the talent on display. I’m looking forward now – we’ve set a marker, and we need to carry that forward.

“It was one of those performances when they played extremely well, and they now need to carry it on throughout the season.

“Let’s see what they come up with now!”
