Torquay United can confirm Steve Elswood has stepped down from his role within the TUFC Women set-up for personal reasons.
Elswood moved into the position of chairman in January 2024, having previously enjoyed amazing success as manager of the team, guiding Torquay United Women to the Devon Premier Cup title and promotion to the National League.
Elswood was responsible for the general running of the club and helped provide stability and sustainability before handing over the reins to new chairman, Torquay United Director Rob Hawes, who is part of the Bryn Consortium at Plainmoor.
Steve Elswood commented: “It has been an honour and a pleasure to be part of this amazing club. Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of working with incredible groups of players and staff, and I’ve been fortunate to receive unwavering support from the Yellow Army.
“To now see the women’s team become a full department within the main club is a proud and fitting way to bring this chapter to a close. I will always be a Yellow and will continue to follow the club that holds a special place in my heart.”
“We are all very sad to say farewell to Steve,” said Hawes, “What Steve has achieved with Torquay United Women’s is outstanding, he has a taken a virtually non-existent team to a playing level that many would think impossible. We completely understand and respect his decision to move on from the club.’’
“Steve played a key role for Torquay United Women, both as a manager and as chairman, and all of us at Plainmoor are extremely appreciative of the time and dedication he has given to the club.”
