Bobby Baxter RIP

Torquay United FC is saddened to learn of the recent passing of former player, Bobby Baxter.

Baxter (pictured below – middle row, far left) joined Frank O’Farrell’s Gulls in 1967, and went on to make 69 appearances, scoring 6 goals, before returning to Darlington, his first club, two years later.

A popular defender wherever he plied his trade – despite having begun his career as a forward – Bobby spent much of the 1960s with Brighton & Hove Albion, where he clocked up over 200 appearances for the Seagulls.

Following his retirement, Baxter spent much of his time passing on his experience to the next generation of stars, including a stint with Torquay’s youth team during Dave Webb’s time at Plainmoor in the 1980s.

The thoughts and condolences of all at TUFC go out to all of Bobby’s family and friends at this very sad time.

Thanks for the memories, Bobby.
