We head into our upcoming clash with Hampton & Richmond Borough buoyed by strong home form, a growing sense of togetherness, and the backing of a Plainmoor crowd that continues to act as a decisive force.
Forward Matt Jay has been a decisive player on the pitch during the season and he sees the balance of the squad as being an important part as United enter the second half of the season. The mix of youth and experience will be a telling factor in the remaining games.
“That’s the beauty of being here,” said MJ . “There’s lots of players in different aspects of life. Some people are just starting off on their careers, some people are slightly older — not coming to an end — but have played the game at a higher level. It’s a really good group. A mix of ages, a mix of experiences, but everyone’s pulling in the same direction.”
On the pitch, United will once again look to harness the unique atmosphere at Plainmoor, where Jay feels the supporters have played a crucial role this season — particularly in tight games.
“Playing at home is amazing, and the away support is unbelievable” he said. “Every week we’re guaranteed three or four thousand, and recently even more. They’ve been the 12th man for us.”
Jay acknowledges that visiting sides often arrive with a game plan designed to disrupt the team’s rhythm, but said the crowd always helps the team push through difficult periods.
“A lot of teams come down and try to make it difficult for us, try to upset us, but the crowd really helps us get over the line. You feel it in the last half an hour, especially.”
With the business end of the season approaching and promotion ambitions firmly in mind, Jay stressed the importance of maintaining that connection between players and supporters.
“As the season progresses and games become more important, it’s imperative that all the fans come along and support us. I think especially at home we’ve given good value for money — a lot of goals, exciting football and a lot of victories. Long may that continue.”
We hope that a combination of squad unity, experience, and home support proves decisive once again when Hampton & Richmond Borough arrive at Plainmoor. Join us for the match by buying in advance here.
