MATCH PREVIEW | SHOWDOWN AT NEW LAWN FOR TUFC WOMEN

From the opening weeks of the campaign, it always felt like the matches between Torquay United Women and Forest Green Rovers could potentially decide the destination of the SW Women’s League title.

The Gulls travel to The New Lawn on Sunday, April 12 for a 2pm kick-off, and those early-season predictions are proving correct.

As it stands, United hold a two-point lead at the top of the table. Sherborne Town are in second place but have played two more games than the Gulls, but Forest Green are arguably the major threat, lurking in third.

FGR are eight points behind United but have two games in hand, meaning a victory for the Gulls on Sunday would make it very tough for Rovers to overhaul that points gap.

The two sides shared a 1-1 draw in Newton Abbot last month, a game that could have gone either way, but there is no doubt TUFC Women are looking forward to the challenge of playing on the main pitch at Forest Green Rovers.

The Gulls followed that stalemate with an extraordinary 6-5 win at Gloucester City in the League Cup and with a positive goal difference of 47 from their 13 league matches so far, entertainment is top of the list for United’s Women.
