Bay Goes Yellow And Blue As Torbay Gets Behind United

Torbay will be glowing yellow and blue tonight as the whole Bay gets behind Torquay United ahead of Saturday’s play-off final.

From 8.15pm this evening (Friday), the seafront festoon lights across Torquay, Paignton and Brixham will be lit in the colours of United, creating a striking show of support for Jimmy Ball’s team as they prepare for their biggest match of the season.

The gesture comes as Torbay Council has also sent its official best wishes to the Club ahead of Saturday’s final against Hornchurch.

In a letter to Co-Chairmen Mark Bowes-Cavanagh and Michael Westcott, Council Leader David Thomas and The Worshipful the Mayor of Torbay, Barbara Lewis, said Torquay United “means a great deal to the Bay — to supporters, to the wider community, and to the local economy”, adding that the team’s determination and performances this season have been “a real source of pride for local people.”

The letter also praised the “hard work and commitment of the players, management, staff and supporters alike”, and said the Club carries with it “the good wishes of the whole of Torbay” heading into Saturday’s final.

With tickets for the away end at Hornchurch selling out in just 34 minutes, and more than 2,000 supporters already set to gather at Plainmoor for the Play-Off Final Watch Party, the yellow and blue lights across the Bay provide another powerful reminder of what this Club means to the community.

Torquay United Co-Chairman Michael Westcott said:

“Seeing Torbay lit up in yellow and blue on the eve of the play-off final is a wonderful gesture, and one we know will mean a great deal to our supporters, players, staff and volunteers.

“We are very grateful to Torbay Council, Cllr David Thomas, the Mayor Barbara Lewis, and everyone involved in making this happen.”

Torquay United Co-Chairman Mark Bowes-Cavanagh said:

“This football club belongs to the Bay. It brings people together, creates pride, supports the local economy and gives our community a shared sense of identity. Whatever happens on Saturday, the backing we have received from across Torbay has been extraordinary.

“Now it is over to Jimmy, the staff and the players — and they will travel to Essex knowing that the whole Bay is behind them.”

Supporters are encouraged to look out for the yellow and blue lights across Torquay, Paignton and Brixham from 8.15pm tonight, and to share their pictures on social media as the countdown to Saturday’s final continues.

Supporters are also reminded they can still secure tickets for Saturday’s Play-Off Final Watch Party via the TUFC ticketing website, with admission also available by paying on the gate.

COME ON YOU YELLOWS!
