TUFC To Take On Barton Cricket Club In Centenary Match

Torquay United FC will play their part in Barton Cricket Club’s centenary celebrations this weekend, as Club representatives take to the field in a special Twenty20 fixture.

The event, which will take place at 2pm this Sunday, July 5th, promises to be one of the highlights of Barton’s 100th anniversary year, bringing together players, supporters, families and members of the local community for a day of cricket and entertainment.

Organisers are hoping the occasion will not only celebrate the club’s rich history but also raise money for charity and showcase the improvements that have recently been made to the club’s facilities.

A packed programme of activities has been planned throughout the day, beginning with an Under-11s Colts match from 9am until 11am. That will be followed by a friendly contest featuring Colts and family members against the Barton Belles ladies’ team.

One of the key moments of the day will take place at 1.30pm when the club officially opens its newly refurbished changing rooms. The revamped facilities are the result of significant investment and represent another important milestone in the club’s development during its centenary year.

Attention will then turn to the main attraction, with Barton XI taking on a Torquay United side in a Twenty20 match starting at 2pm.

While the fixture is being staged in a celebratory atmosphere, organisers expect both teams to be keen to claim local bragging rights in what should be an entertaining contest.

Visitors are encouraged to spend the entire day at the club, with the clubhouse remaining open throughout. A barbecue, tea rooms and a bouncy castle are all planned to help create a festival atmosphere for spectators of all ages.

Players, officials, supporters and local residents have all been invited to attend what promises to be a memorable occasion as Barton Cricket Club marks 100 years at the heart of the local sporting community.
