FA Women’s National League football returned to Plainmoor in style, as United’s women thrashed Ascot on Sunday afternoon.

After a fairly even start to proceedings, United took charge just short of the half hour, as Ella-Mae Miller slotted home from close range following a low ball across the six-yard box.

A brace from Beth Everson saw Torquay pull further clear, with two cool finishes within seven minutes.

Her first saw her cleverly time her run to beat the offside trap before firing confidently across the goalkeeper, before she calmly slotted below the advancing custodian just before the break.

There was still time for Brooke Ellis to fire through a crowd of players following a corner in first-half stoppage time, allowing United plenty of room to breathe at the break.

More punishment was to fall the way of the visitors after the change of ends though, as Connie Pengelly opened her account for the season.

With the second period only three minutes old, an audacious effort from the edge of the penalty area found the top corner for United’s fifth, before she bundles home from point-blank range on the hour mark, after Ascot’s number 1 had initially done well to keep out a Jess Geach header from a corner.

Mercifully for The Gulls’ hard-working but beleaguered opponents, there were no further goals, despite numerous opportunities to add to their tally.

United’s next test is just two days away, as Perks’ side host Bridgwater at Buckland Athletic on Tuesday evening.
