TUFC issues update following amazing response to support Gulls favourite Roxy Thomas
Torquay United, on behalf of the Thomas family, would like to express its heartfelt thanks to everybody that has donated, shared, and supported the GoFundMe fundraiser to support Roxy Thomas and her family that was launched last week.
In an astonishing show of support from the Yellow Army and the wider footballing family, donations have now exceeded £15,000 in just ten days.
Every single penny raised will be used to help Roxy and the Thomas family during what is an incredibly difficult period, after the hugely popular member of the United women’s team was diagnosed with a brain tumour.
Roxy, 18, is currently in the Intensive Care Unit at Southmead Hospital in Bristol following a series of operations following her diagnosis, and the Thomas family have understandably requested privacy at this time.
It goes without saying, however, that the prayers, thoughts and best wishes of everyone here at Plainmoor remain with her, her family, friends and teammates throughout this period.

On Sunday afternoon, Roxy’s teammates will continue their FA Women’s National League Cup campaign with a trip to Marine Academy Plymouth (06/09/26 2pm KO).
In what is a generous and heart-warming gesture from our opponents, MAP have announced that all gate receipts from Sunday’s fixture will be donated towards Roxy and her family – a further show of support from the ‘Footballing Family’ we are all proud to be a part of.
Everyone at TUFC would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone at Marine Academy for this kind initiative, and we hope that as many Gulls fans as possible will take up this opportunity to make the trip to Erm Valley this weekend to show their support for not just the United team, but also Roxy too.
GoFundMe fundraiser in support of Gulls player Roxy Thomas
After joining United last summer, Roxy has gone on to establish herself as an important member of Torquay United Women, with the attacking left-back enjoying an outstanding 2025/26 campaign.
In addition to being a regular member of last season’s treble-winning side, Roxy became a reliable source of goals throughout 2025/26, with numerous assists created for teammates, in addition to getting on the scoresheet herself on regular occasions.
A set-piece specialist, her consistent form eventually saw her rightly recognised as the Women’s Young Player of the Season at the club’s end-of-season Gala awards.
A much-loved and integral member of the Torquay United FC family, everyone at Plainmoor will continue to stand alongside Roxy and the Thomas family every step of the way throughout her treatment schedule.
As part of this, a GoFundMe campaign has been launched to help raise funds to support Roxy and her family during this testing period.

Every penny raised via this fundraiser will be used to support Roxy and her family with costs associated with the following:
- Travel costs to / from hospital
- Accommodation for Roxy & her family during hospital stays
- Loss of income during treatment
- Medical expenses not covered by NHS
