A New Era for Women’s Football at Plainmoor

Torquay United Football Club is delighted to announce that Torquay United Women FC will officially become affiliated with the main club from the 2025/26 season.

Following a sustained period of success on the pitch, including winning the Devon Cup and securing promotion to the FA Women’s National League – as well as launching another promotion bid this term – this significant milestone marks a new chapter for the club. The affiliation will see Torquay United’s men’s and women’s teams operating under the same banner, uniting both sides as representatives of one club.

After positive discussions with the club’s board of directors since the Bryn Consortium’s takeover over the past year, this transition from separate entities to a unified force will allow the women’s team to benefit from shared resources, partnerships, expertise, and personnel. It will also provide the team with the opportunity to achieve even greater success in the years to come.

As a result of the affiliation, TUFC Director Rob Hawes – who has led discussions with Women’s club staff – will now become the Club’s new Chairman of Women’s Football.

“We are delighted to officially welcome Torquay United Women into the Club,” said Rob.

“As a community-driven, family-focused football club, Torquay United is committed to promoting diversity and inclusivity at every level.

“We believe that by sharing resources across both the men’s and women’s teams, we can strengthen our club and our community. This will include everything from utilising our facilities at Plainmoor and collaborating on partnerships, to ensuring both teams are equipped with the necessary resources ahead of the new season.

“Our ongoing partnership with South Devon College is already yielding fantastic results, and we are confident that this affiliation will provide a genuine player pathway, ensuring the best local footballing talent stays here in the Bay with Torquay United.”

By taking this historic step, Torquay United joins a growing number of football clubs that support both men’s and women’s teams, with local examples such as Exeter City and Plymouth Argyle demonstrating the success of all-inclusive clubs.

This new era promises to be an exciting chapter for Torquay United, and we look forward to seeing the continued growth and success of women’s football at Plainmoor.

There will be further exciting news regarding this development over the coming days and weeks – stay tuned!
