Coach Road hosts latest pre-season test for Torquay United Women
United Women head to Coach Road this Sunday as they continue their pre-season preparations with the visit of Birmingham City Under-21s (19/07/26 2pm KO).
With three matches scheduled over the coming week, Perks will be keen not only to build his squad’s fitness ahead of what promises to be a demanding league campaign, but also to test his players against a variety of opponents.
Sunday’s visitors will provide one of United’s sternest examinations of the summer. Birmingham City’s first team secured promotion back to the Women’s Super League last season, while their Under-21s also enjoyed a memorable campaign. The young Blues lifted the PGA Cup with victory over Brighton & Hove Albion, claiming the trophy for a second consecutive year.
United head into the fixture full of confidence following an impressive performance against Queens Park Rangers last weekend. Summer signing Sarah Stacey made an immediate impact, finding the net twice on her debut in yellow. Goalkeeper Ellie Mitchell also produced an outstanding display, saving a penalty before making a superb double save from the two follow-up efforts to preserve United’s advantage.
This weekend’s contest will also see a return to the traditional format of two 45-minute halves. Last Sunday’s fixture in London was played over three 30-minute periods, allowing Ryan Perks the opportunity to assess several trialists while experimenting with different partnerships and tactical combinations throughout the game.
The match will once again be played at Coach Road while Plainmoor continues its preparations for the new season.
The Yellow Army will be warmly welcomed to attend this fixture at Devon FA Headquarters, with the action kicking off at 2pm, and entrance for this fixture priced at £3.
