Madri Boys SSC to take on TUFC All Stars and help support of Gulls fan Ben

Later this month, a team of former Torquay United favourites will be taking on local social sports club Madri Boys in order to raise money and awareness for a number of fantastic – one of which is very close to the heart of all of us here at Plainmoor.

Ben’s Story

In May 2023, the lives of the Hiscoke family were turned upside down when young TUFC fan Ben was diagnosed with a high-grade brain tumour.

Ben was swiftly moved to Bristol Children’s Hospital, where emergency operations were carried out to remove most of the tumour, however the crushing news then came in that Ben had been diagnosed with brain cancer.

Young Lives Vs Cancer provided the family with incredible support, from the big stuff like sorting out somewhere to live whilst away from home, to helping with forms and navigating a whole new world.
Ben’s Dad – also a huge United fan-  has spoken about the invaluable help his family was provided with at such a difficult time.

“They gave us somewhere to live when we needed it the most, and sorted out all the administration that goes with that. You hear of horror stories where people are paying out thousands of pounds in hotels to stay close to the hospital” said Jon, who went on to explain why he, with the help of Madri Boys’ co-founder Liam Lindon, chose to raise money to help others who find themselves in a similar situation.

“It is an honour to be able to raise money for this incredible cause. Ben is an incredibly determined young man who lives his life to the full. Every setback is met with an attitude of overcoming it. Join us supporting a good cause, any money raised will make a huge difference to the lives of children and young people with cancer.”

Every day 12 more children and young people hear the devastating news they have cancer. Young Lives vs Cancer helps families find the strength to face everything cancer throws at them. We’ll face it all together – but we can’t do it without you. To find out more about Young Lives Vs Cancer click HERE
