Chris Barnard RIP

The Club is saddened to learn of the recent passing of former Torquay United player Chris Barnard

Chris joined the club in October 1970, after Torquay United paid his former club, Ipswich Town, a fee of £8,000 for his services.

A midfielder by trade, arguably his most memorable contribution for The Gulls came in January 1971 when he scored twice for United as the side came back from 3-0 down to beat Lincoln City 4–3 in the FA Cup.

Chris went on to make 32 league appearances for Torquay, scoring 3 goals before departing Plainmoor for Charlton Athletic a year later.

Our thoughts and condolences go out to all of Chris’ family and friends at this sad time.

Chris is pictured with the rest of United’s 1971/72 squad (back row fourth from left).

Chris’ funeral service will take place on Tuesday 18th February at 12.30pm. Anyone wishing to partake in the service can do so remotely by following the link here: https://watch.obitus.com
