Danni Wyatt Announces Playing Retirement

,

After more than a year on the sidelines, Torquay United Women forward Danni Wyatt has announced her retirement from the game, following a long and distinguished playing career at Plainmoor, and beyond.

One of the most recognisable and respected players in the history of women’s football at Torquay United, Danni’s list of achievements goes far beyond the football pitch at Plainmoor, having also fulfilled the role of Coach, HerGameToo Ambassador, and Club Director, whilst also leading the charge on and off the field to drive change and promote a brighter future for women’s football locally and nationally.

Although her footballing journey has seen the striker represent a number of other clubs, including Devon rivals Exeter City, Plymouth Argyle and Buckland Athletic, Danni has never made any secret Plainmoor was her spiritual home, and after departing City in 2021 to return to United, Wyatt went on to play her part in the team’s finest hours.

After helping Torquay to win the Devon Premier Cup for the first time in 2022, more success was to follow the following season, as The Gulls clinched promotion to the FA Women’s National League for first time.

Although injuries were beginning to take their toll, two goals in United’s 6-0 win over Pucklechurch in May 2025 saw Danni fittingly sign off her scoring account at her beloved Plainmoor home.

After confirming she was hanging up her boots this weekend, Wyatt was quick to reaffirm her continued commitment to the TUFC cause – from behind the scenes.

“I’m forever grateful for everything Torquay United has given me,” said Danni.

“This club has shaped me, moulded me, and played such a huge part in the person I am today. It’s hard to put into words what it has meant to me and if I could do it all again, I would, over and over again.

“I’m not going anywhere. I’ll continue to do everything I can to support the club and help drive the women’s team forward for many years to come.

“The boots may be retired, but my drive and passion for Torquay United never will be.”

Although Ryan Perks – manager of Torquay United’s women – may not have been able to benefit from Danni’s impact as a player last season due to injury, he’s in no doubt of the legacy she leaves for the current side.

“Danni has had a fantastic career, and she has every right to be proud of what she has achieved here at Torquay United,” said Perks.

“Although we’ll miss her presence out on the pitch, we’re lucky that we’ll still be able to call upon her support at Club, and I look forward to continue working with her and help drive Torquay United’s women onto even greater success in the future.”

Thanks for everything, Danni!
