Superb showing sees Young Gulls beat Truro
Torquay United’s FA Youth Cup run continues, after Kevin Wills’ side secured an impressive victory over Truro City at Homers Heath on Monday evening.
It was the Cornish side that started the brighter, before a break in proceedings to treat a Truro player gave Torquay the chance to assert some authority on proceedings.
Shortly after things got back underway, the Young Gulls took the lead, thanks to a marvellous piece of work from Gene Price.
The delivery from United’s talented number ten saw the City backline caught out, and allowed Fin Herbert to apply the finishing touch and put his side ahead.
It had been a tight first half, but the second half was a different matter entirely.
Only a few minutes after the restart, the lads in yellow doubled their advantage, as Jonah Shaw drilled a low shot in off-the-post from 20 yards.
Before Truro had chance to regroup, United struck twice more before the hour mark.
Some excellent play down the right flank allowed Coby White to fire home from close range, before an audacious 30-yard lob from Herbert made it four.
The visitors did manage to pull one back, and when Ellis Drew received his marching orders with 20 minutes to play, the possibility of an uncomfortable finale began to emerge.
Wills’ charges managed the remainder of the game well though, and they eventually secured their place in the 3rd Qualifying Round with something to spare.
Well played, lads!
