Co-Chairmen SHARE THEIR PROGRAMME NOTES AHEAD OF Tomorrow’S clash WITH tonbridge
Tomorrow, as we come together for our final home game before Christmas, we’d like to offer a very warm welcome to everyone coming to Plainmoor – and in particular to our visitors, Tonbridge Angels. We thank their players, staff and travelling supporters who are making the journey to Devon, and we hope they enjoy their afternoon with us (aside from the result, of course!).
We come into the game on the back of five consecutive league wins, an excellent achievement in what is a fiercely competitive division. That run has brought us 15 points from 15 and pushed us right into the heart of the promotion race.
We are incredibly proud of the character and resilience this group has shown to put us on such a run. Paul and his staff have demanded hard work, discipline and togetherness, and the players have responded superbly.
While the home game against Hornchurch ultimately ended in defeat, Paul was clear, in his reflections on that afternoon, that he felt we had “turned a corner”. The performance levels, the commitment and the belief were there.
Since then, the results have followed – and it’s fair to say he appears to have been absolutely right about that. Nobody in our dressing room or the boardroom is getting carried away, but five wins on the trot is something to enjoy and a platform to build on.
Tomorrow also marks an important test for the club as we trial allowing supporters to consume alcohol inside the ground while watching the game. We have not taken this decision lightly. We have planned carefully with our safety team and partners because we believe we can offer an enhanced matchday experience while maintaining the family-friendly environment that defines Plainmoor.
We are trusting our supporters to enjoy this responsibly and to look after those around them. Your feedback will be vital as we consider whether to make this a permanent arrangement.
As this will be our last home game before Christmas, we also want to pause for a more personal word. For many, this time of year is full of joy – family, friends, festive football and a chance to make memories together at Plainmoor. If that’s you, we hope Torquay United can add a bit of extra sparkle to your Christmas this year.
But we also know that Christmas can be a difficult time for some – especially those who are missing loved ones, struggling with health or finances, or simply finding life tough. If that’s your situation, please know that you are very much part of the Torquay United family. You are valued, and you will always be welcome here. On behalf of the Board, Paul and the players, and everyone behind the scenes, we send our warmest best wishes to all Torquay United supporters, wherever you are.
Finally, we are already looking forward to Boxing Day, when we host Weston-super-Mare in what promises to be a classic festive encounter between two in-form sides. We expect a bumper crowd, with strong away support, so we would encourage everyone – especially families – to book early to avoid disappointment.
Thank you once again for your magnificent backing. Enjoy the game tomorrow, enjoy your Christmas, and let’s hope for another big performance on Saturday.
Come on You Yellows !
