United return to Plainmoor on Saturday to face thirteenth place Chelmsford City. Ahead of the match first team manager Paul Wotton heaped praise on the Yellow Army after the support his team has received this season.
Another bumper crowd will help United fight for another three points at home. “It’s amazing,” said Wotton about the support. “Obviously we get good crowds here. We’ve got good home form.”
“Its a different atmosphere here. It’s a special atmosphere when the crowd gets behind the team – it makes a hell of a difference. They really stick with you and they give you that extra five percent, definitely.”
With most of the teams in the National League South haven played fourteen or more games, the table has started to take shape according to Wotton.
“I couldn’t tell you the exact number of points there is between twelfth and top, but it’s not many. There’s a few games in hand coming, There’s a few teams unfortunately still in single points. It seems to be not far away from forming its own leagues within leagues.”
Chelmsford City finished in second place in the National League South table last season and Wotton had praise for the the Clarets’ manager, Robbie Simpson.
“I think their manager’s great,” said Wotton. “He’s a really good manager. They’ll be organised, they’ll be fit. They’re a quite a young team this year so they’re energetic. We’ll be in for a fight, definitely.”
“One thing with Robbie’s teams is that you can never pre-empt their shape. He’s got no problems playing different shapes. and tactically, he’s very, very good.
“They’ve got a few boys in good form at the moment and they had a good result scoring against Salisbury scoring in the last minute which always brings momentum into the next game. As always we’ll have to be at our best to get something out of the game”.
