TUFC is proud to celebrate International Women’s Day 2025, with this year’s theme highlighting the need to take swift and decisive steps to achieve gender equality.

Each year on March 8th, IWD celebrates achievement, raises awareness of discrimination and continues to take action in order to acheive gender parity for women across the whole world.

However, the battle for a level playing field goes on, with IWD 2025 asking everyone to unite together to Accelerate Action for gender equality.

At the current rate of progress, it has been documented by the World Economic Forum that it will take until 2158 to reach full gender parity – a timescale which is totally unacceptable.

Now is the time to Accelerate Action and take swift and decisive steps to achieve gender equality, with increased momentum and urgency needed in order to address the systemic barriers and biases that women face, both in personal and professional spheres.

Although Torquay United is privileged to not only have a successful and thriving women’s team of its own, women also play a prominent role behind the scenes too. Over the past twelve months, TUFC was delighted to announce that our women’s Club Captain Danni Wyatt had been appointed to its board of directors, and prior to that, the Club welcomed Jess Veacock to Plainmoor as United’s new Head of Operations.

Veacock spoke of her support for IWD 2025.

“As Head of Operations at Torquay United, I’m proud to advocate for International Women’s Day 2025.

“This day is no longer just about the rise of women, but about celebrating the strength, resilience, and accomplishments of women every day, in every aspect of life.

“It’s also a reminder though, that equality should not be a future goal, but a present reality, so we must continue to foster, uplift and support.

“From women referees, players and women in the stands and in business, their contributions are invaluable, and their impact continues to shape the future of sport and beyond.”
