Liam Anthony named as Community Captain for Premier League’s More Than A Game initiative

Torquay United have named Liam Anthony as their Premier League Community Captain in recognition of their commitment and contribution to the game and society.

Over the past two weeks, the Premier League and clubs have celebrated ‘More Than A Game’ and highlighting the positive impact of Premier League investment into communities and clubs at every level of football.

The Premier League is investing £1.6 billion into wider football and communities between 2022 and 2025 to support football at every level of the game across England and Wales. This world-leading funding into clubs, communities and facilities positively impacts and inspires millions of people.

As part of ‘More Than A Game’, the League will be celebrating more than 100 Community Captains – individuals nominated by Premier League, EFL and National League clubs for their contribution to their local community via programmes funded by the Premier League.

Liam Anthony, a 15-year-old volunteer for Torquay United Community Sports Trust, has been chosen as Torquay United’s 2025 Community Captain for his incredible commitment to sports coaching in the local community and volunteering in the Community Sports Trust.

On receiving the award, Liam said: “I was very surprised to have won this award, was not expecting it at all! I really enjoy helping out at the Community Sessions and learning from the different Coaches in the Trust. I am hoping to have a career in the industry.”

Jamie McInnes, Community Football Manager, of Torquay United Community Sports Trust said: “Liam has been supporting TUCST activities for the last few years, after coming through our pathway as a participant. Liam works incredibly hard and professionally to support the high-quality provision we offer throughout Torbay.

“He is proactive, positive and engaging with the children and young people he works with. Liam gives up hours of his week to support our weekly sessions, along with our extensive range of school holiday provision. All of us at TUCST are extremely proud to have Liam working with us. He has a very bright future ahead of him.”

Premier League Director of Community Nick Perchard said: “It is so important that we continue to recognise and collectively highlight the positive impact that work within local communities has, championing those at the heart of Premier League-funded initiatives. Success on the pitch enables the Premier League to share unparalleled investment into communities and football at all levels across England and Wales.”
