Young defender signs extended contract at Plainmoor.
Following a superb start to the current campaign, United left-back Matt Carson has agreed an extension to his current deal, and will now remain with the The Gulls until the end of the 2025/26 season.
Former Southampton and Northern Ireland U19 defender Carson has been in sparkling form for Paul Wotton’s men since arriving on the English Riviera in the summer. After marking his first league appearance with Torquay’s first goal in the opening day win over Enfield Town, Matt has continued to produce a number of eye-catching performances, and has quickly installed himself as a firm favourite with the Yellow Army.
With the extended deal protecting one of the club’s key assets, as well as rewarding the player himself for his swift progression in a United shirt, Gulls boss Wotton was delighted to secure Carson’s long-term future;
“Matty came in on a one-year contract, and has started the season well. He’s a really good young talent, and we believe in him, so he’s been rewarded with an extension.
“He’s a promising young player, he’s still got lots to learn, but we love having him about the place, and he has a lot to offer Torquay United.
“It gives him and us security.”
Well done, Matty!
