Our Match-Day Heroes at Plainmoor

Another match-day ticked off at Plainmoor and another fantastic effort from all of those who make it happen.

We are blessed with a superb team of volunteers and match-day staff at Torquay United, some have been with us for decades and some new to the Plainmoor experience, but all come together with the ambition of delivering a great day out for the Yellow Army.

From the team behind the scenes at your football club, we just want to say thank you to all of those people who turn up every match-day, rain or shine, it is truly appreciated by everyone at Torquay United.

Walking around yesterday morning, with a heavy mist lingering over the pitch, Head Groundsman Julian Gouldthorpe was preparing for the game with the support of his volunteer crew, which includes the team repairing divots at half-time and dedicated people helping with all the heavy lifting.

The gate staff get in place just after lunchtime, ready to greet the Yellow Army with a warm smile, while the programme sellers are in position, dishing out the latest edition of the 1899 Magazine, often in brutal conditions.

Our match-day ambassadors take up their posts, providing instructions, directions and warmth to the arriving supporters, while the ticketing, retail and reception teams answer all questions with a smile.

Move upstairs at Plainmoor, or across to Boots & Laces, and you will find the catering and hospitality team rushing around to serve fantastic food, deliver drinks on demand and exchange a friendly football chat with all in attendance.

The stewarding and safety team arguably have the toughest job on a match-day, and like at most football clubs, their work is often unseen and under-appreciated, but we at Torquay United are very grateful for the professionalism and poise they bring to occasionally challenging situations.

From the media side, we have the announcers, commentators, journalists and camera crew all painting the Plainmoor picture with vivid colour and imagination, so those unable to join us can still enjoy the unique flavour of a Torquay United match-day.

For those of you fortunate enough to be here for the live sporting drama, 50/50 sellers will be parading around for the traditional raffle, another group exposed to the elements, while the kiosk teams sizzle with the smells of delicious footy food.

There are many more to mention, and we apologise for those we missed, we just wanted to say thank-you to the match-day team for your amazing effort and dedication.

We won’t get everything right and we learn something new every single match-day, but the commitment of all those inside the Plainmoor operation is truly appreciated.
