Pay What You Want v Cardiff U21s!

Torquay United is pleased to announce its first-ever ‘Pay What You Want’ fixture, with donations towards TUFC’s rejuvenated Youth Department replacing an entrance fee for our home friendly against Cardiff City U21s on Saturday, 25th July (12pm kick-off).

With the Bluebirds’ latest high-flyers heading to Plainmoor for The Gulls’ penultimate warm-up test ahead of the 2026/27 National League South campaign, this match represents already represents a great opportunity to see Jimmy Ball’s new-look squad in action before the real thing gets underway two weeks later.

And now, following what has been a busy – but hugely exciting – week for our Youth department, the Yellow Army will have the chance to contribute whatever this wish to help push the next generation to even greater heights.

Earlier this week came the news that Ryan Perks will be combing his position as manager of United’s all-conquering women with his new role as Torquay’s new Head of Youth, and that was swiftly followed up by even more positive news, with four of The Gulls’ brightest prospects signing deals to join our new Elite Under-19 squad for 2026/27.

With the usual entrance fee waived for the Cardiff U21 encounter, supporters will instead have the opportunity to donate towards furthering the progression of the next generation of Gulls stars, and help the Club raise valuable funds towards its Youth Development Programme.

United’s new Youth boss was happy to lend his support to the initiative.

“I think this is a great idea, and hopefully it’s one which the Yellow Army will also embrace,” said Perks.

“Regarding the match itself, it’s a fantastic opportunity to watch the team, including the new signings, in action against what is sure to be a talented young Cardiff side, but with the entrance fee waived in place of donations towards the youth department, it’s a chance for supporters to directly benefit something which we know is of much interest, and importance, to them.

“It’s also an ideal opportunity to bring a friend or family member who has not been to Plainmoor before, to show them what matchdays are all about, and who knows, maybe they’ll come back for me.

“It’s something to really look forward to.”

Donations for this fixture can be made in advance or on the day of the game, with further information to follow.
