United’s table-topping women take a break from league action this Sunday (01/02/26 2pm KO), as Ryan Perks’ side take on Pucklechurch Sports in the MJM Sports League Cup quarter-final at Coach Road.
Fresh from the stunning 10-1 win over Saltash that took The Gulls top of the South West Regional Womens Football League Premier Division, United will be looking to follow that up with success in the League Cup. Pucklechurch, meanwhile, will be returning to Devon looking to avenge October’s 3-2 defeat at Plainmoor.
Perks was clearly delighted with last weekend’s victory, but also the progress being made by his side.
“Overall, it was a very pleasing performance,” said the United manager.
“To score ten goals was fantastic in itself, but to do it with the quality of our team play was really encouraging. It was great to see the patterns of play we have been working on in training coming out in the game, and the team is getting stronger week on week.
“There were some excellent moves, good tempo and a real togetherness in our whole game. The main goal before the game was to get the 3 points and go top, and we did that but in style.”

However, Torquay’s boss is refusing to get carried away ahead of the visit of a Pucklechurch side that ground out a 1-1 draw with United in the season’s opener, back in September.
“We were a little disappointed to concede the goal last week as it was avoidable, and we will look to rectify this in the coming weeks.
“We have already faced Pucklechurch twice this season, and they are the only team to take anything from us in the league. They will want to cause an upset in the cup, so we are under no illusions about how competitive this game will be.”
With United still having to play catch-up in the league due to a number of postponements, a packed fixture list may prompt Perks to make a few changes to his starting line-up, with a number of players eager to get game time and play their part in the run-in.
“It will be a good opportunity for us to test the squad again, and give some minutes to those who have been performing well in training and been unlucky not to get more minutes recently”
With the Admission Price for this encounter at Coach Road set at just £2, this is an ideal opportunity for the Yellow Army to catch some match action on Sunday, and see why United’s women could be on the verge of another success story.
