Return to league action following cup win

After eventually overcoming Plympton Ladies in the FA Cup last weekend, Torquay United return to South West Regional Women’s Premier League action this Sunday, as Poole Town Ladies visit Coach Road.

An opening day draw for United at AEK Boco Ladies, was followed up by a comprehensive opening home win over Frampton Rangers a fortnight ago.  And with manager, Lee Mann, now officially back in the dugout, United will be keen to take advantage of the early season run of home fixtures.

Poole were promoted to the Premier Division after winning Division One East in the last campaign, pipping Royal Wooton Bassett to the title by two points.  Emma King’s 24 goal haul also helped Poole Town to a +51 goal difference last term.

This season has been a mixed bag so far.  Town won their season opener 2-0 against AFC St Austell, but then went down 2-1 at home to Forest Green Rovers Women, and lost by the odd goal in five at Ilchester Town Ladies.  That two-game slide was arrested last weekend, with a 7-1 F.A. Cup win at Merley Ladies.

Their twelve goals this season have come from 9 different players – so no reliance on a single striker!  It means United must to be aware that Poole’s goal threat could come from anywhere.

Please come and give the ladies your support in person on Sunday. Postcode for Devon F.A. Headquarters at Coach Road is TQ12 1EJ.  Admission is £5 with concessions at £3 and there will be food and bar facilities available.

But if you can’t get along there will be full commentary from 1.45 pm at https://tufcwomen.mixlr.com or you can follow updates on our social media channels.
