REPORT: CHESHAM 1 – 0 UNITED

Torquay suffer defeat at The Meadow

United slipped to defeat in Buckinghamshire on Saturday, after a single Nathan Minhas goal was enough to seal the points for the Generals.

Gulls boss Paul Wotton made two changes to the side that played out a goalless draw at home to Dagenham & Redbridge last weekend, with Jordan Thomas and Dylan Morgan replacing Denzel Akyeampong and Louis Dennis in the starting eleven. There was also a welcome addition to the substitutes bench, where Sonny Fish made his first appearance in the matchday squad, following his rehabilitation from injury.

The first half began in a very tight manner, as both teams tried to plot a way through, with the first chance not arriving until the 14th minute.

Callum Dolan’s free-kick was deflected towards the back post, where Sam Dreyer arrived in time to meet the ball, before seeing his effort sail over the bar.

James Hamon was called into action for the first time as in the 24th minute, as the ball fell to Connor Roberts who had his shot turned behind for a corner.

Chesham were now pushing United more and in the 36th minute they broke the deadlock.

A short corner from Alex Babos found its way into the path of Minhas, who drilled a low shot ball into the net.

That was the way it remained at the break.

The second half started with a flurry of attacks as both teams attacked each other’s penalty areas, but as the half wore on, a stop-start pattern to proceedings ensued, which played right into the home side’s hands.

United had struggled to create much in the way of clear-cut openings for most of the afternoon, but as the game entered the dying stages, The Gulls finally began to work Goode more, and at the death, substitute Matt Jay fired an effort across a packed goalmouth, without it attracting the final touch it desperately needed.

Torquay, do though, have a chance to put this result behind them when they return to action on Tuesday night against Chippenham Town.
