GULLS SUFFER DEFEAT ON THE ROAD AWAY TO DORKING WANDERERS

Three first half goals from Dorking Wanderers was enough to claim all three points at The Meadowbank Stadium. Goals from Rutherford, Taylor, and Muitt ensured that United could not build on their win in midweek.

Manager Paul Wotton made four changes to the starting line-up that earned three points against Chippenham Town last time out. Jordan Young, Sonny Blu Lo-Everton, Jordan Thomas, and Matt Jay made way for Denzel Akyeampong, Ed Palmer, Dan Hayfield, and Cian Dillon.

United were on the back foot early on when Alfie Rutherford scored in the 7th minute. A cross-field pass was cut out by Dorking which put United on the back foot. Rutherford ran on to a ball from Lewis and his composed finish found the bottom left corner.

United were struggling to find their tempo and were punished once again in the 26th minute when Prior found Taylor whose shot found the far corner.

Muitt scored Dorking’s third late on in the first half after Wanderers had built up some pressure through numerous corners. The ball fell for him kindly to inside the penalty box for him to put the home side 3-0 up at the break.

Manager Paul Wotton made three changes at half-time with Denzel Akyeampong, Cian Dillon, and Dan Hayfield coming up replaced by Sonny Blu Lo-Everton, Jordan Young, and Matt Jay.

With the changes rung United improved in the second half and started to take the game to Dorking with Jordan Young in particular causing them significant problems.

While United were improved, James Hamon was forced into a smart save from Camp in the 53rd minute.

Ed Palmer nearly got a goal back for United in the 62nd minute when his header tested Foulkes from a Lo Evertom cross.

Louis Dennis, not short on endeavour, squeezed past two opponents to send a shot wide of goal in the 68th minute.

Jordan Young was a continual thorn in Dorking’s side in the second half. United were to get a penalty late on but were to be denied. Dennis’s effort saved by Foulkes.

The last significant moment of the match was to be United’s. Jordan Young scoring another sublime free-kick to get United on the scoresheet.
