REPORT: UNITED 1 – 2 HEMEL

United 1

(Moore 35′)

Hemel Hempstead 2

(Campbell 9′, Vilhete 53′)

United’s winning run came to a halt on Saturday, as Hemel ran out winners at Plainmoor.

Remaye Campbell gave the visitors an early lead, before Deon Moore levelled things up later in the first half. Mauro Vilhete put Hemel back in front after the change of ends though, and that proved to be enough.

Ahead of his side’s final home game of the regular 2025/26 campaign, Gulls boss Jimmy Ball made two changes to the side that romped to victory at Slough last weekend, with Jordan Thomas and Matt Jay replaced by Will Tizzard and Callum Dolan respectively.

It was Hemel who gained an early advantage.

After a defence-splitting pass found George Williams in space on the right of the United penalty area, his low ball into the box was finished first-time by Campbell, to put the Tudors 1-0 up.

It was something of a hard watch for some time thereafter, as Hemel kept United at bay courtesy of some committed defending.

Moore – through no fault of his own – had looked an isolated figure for a period, but in the 35 minutes, he reminded everyone of the value he has brought to the side since his recent arrival.

A high ball forward held up just enough for Moore, and after seeing off the attentions of a defender, Moore ploughed forward with purpose before slotting home a low diagonal shot past Michael Johnson in the visiting goal.

United had made their first shot of the half count.

1-1, and that was the way it stayed until the interval.

Following the restart, it was Hemel who went back in front.

After being afforded a little too much space 25 yards from goal, Vilhete made the most of the opportunity by firing the ball into the the top corner of the net, past Stacey’s outstretched right arm.

As much as United huffed and puffed, they were unable to seriously threaten an equaliser, and despite results elsewhere going the way of The Gulls, it turned out to be a frustrating afternoon at Plainmoor.

Much still to be decided though.

For now, its onto Tonbridge next weekend, for one final trip in the 2025/26 regular season.
