TUFC Celebrates IWD 2026

Torquay United FC is once again proud to celebrate International Women’s Day, with this year’s ‘Give To Gain’ theme encouraging a mindset of generosity and collaboration

Each year on March 8th, IWD celebrates achievement, raises awareness of discrimination and continues to take action in order to acheive gender parity for women across the whole world.

IWD’s ‘Give To Gain’ campaign emphasises the power of reciprocity and support. When people, organizations, and communities give generously, opportunities and support for women increase. Giving is not a subtraction, it’s intentional multiplication. When women thrive, we all rise.

Whether through donations, knowledge, resources, infrastructure, visibility, advocacy, education, training, mentoring, or time, contributing to women’s advancement helps create a more supportive and interconnected world.

Although Torquay United is privileged to not only have an exciting and ambitious women’s team of its own, women also play a prominent role behind the scenes too.

From Life President Thea Bristow, Danni Wyatt on the Board of Directors, to familiar faces around the Plainmoor offices like Head of Hospitality Debbie Reynolds, Head of Retail & Reception Lorraine Ross and Finance Executive Amanda Counter, TUFC is blessed with women who don’t just ensure TUFC continues – but continues to thrive.

Wyatt spoke of the importance of IWD, and paid tribute to her club colleagues.

“International Women’s Day is always a moment of reflection for me, but also one of immense pride.

“Football has been part of my life for as long as I can remember. I grew up playing the game, down the park with my brothers, dreaming big and learning lessons that only football can teach, resilience, teamwork and passion. At the heart of all of that has always been Torquay United.

“Being a woman in football has not always been easy. For many years the game felt like a space where women had to work twice as hard to be heard, to be respected, and be included. But times are changing, and they are changing because of incredible people who refuse to accept anything less than equality and respect in the sport we all love.

“That’s why International Women’s Day is so important. It’s recognition of the determination and dedication that women bring to the game every single day.

“I’m also incredibly proud of the many women who represent Torquay United across our club and community. From those working behind the scenes, to volunteers, staff, and supporters, there are so many fantastic female voices helping to shape the future of our club.”

Torquay United Women manager Ryan Perks echoed those sentiments.

“Every day I’m inspired by the dedication, strength, and talent of the women I have the privilege to work with.

“Women’s football isn’t just growing — it’s leading the future of the game. I’m proud to stand beside them all, and wish everyone a Happy International Women’s Day.”
