Kevin Wills’ side prepare for Truro test with 3-0 victory
Ahead of their FA Youth Cup 2nd Qualifying Round tie against Truro City on Monday evening, United’s Under-18s produced another fine performance to claim all three points against Champion Sports on Saturday morning.
The visitors initially proved stubborn opponents at South Devon College, before The Young Gulls finally made the breakthrough just past the half-hour.
It was Andrew Ellis – fresh from his Devon Bowl brace at Buckland on Tuesday – who was the man who eventually broke the deadlock, and Torquay did enough to maintain that advantage at the break.
The second half saw Wills’ team take charge of proceedings, and ten minutes after the restart they doubled their lead as Coby White applied a smart finish to make it 2-0.
A third followed swiftly after, with Ellis producing another moment of magic with a stunning strike on 60 minutes to apply the finishing touch in a comfortable win for United.
The result is a timely boost for the side, who make a swift return to Buckland Athletic’s VX3 Stadium on Monday 30th September (7.30pm KO) for their FA Youth Cup clash with Truro City.
