Promotion rivals come face-to-face at The Rec this Sunday
Torquay United’s women will face the sternest test of their promotion credentials this weekend, as Ryan Perks’ unbeaten table-toppers host Forest Green Rovers at The Rec, Newton Abbot (22/03/26 2pm KO).
With both sides undefeated so far this season, but yet to play each other, the two fixtures between the team have long been billed as being pivotal in the SWRWFL title race.
United currently sit top of the tree, four points ahead of second-placed Sherborne, who have played two games more than The Gulls. However, it’s third-placed Rovers that most onlookers view as Torquay’s main threat to their promotion ambitions, with the Gloucestershire-based outfit the only other side in the division yet to taste defeat, sitting 11 points adrift of top-spot, but still possessing three games in hand.
There’s no doubt that although there’s still plenty of football still to be played in 2025/26, three points for Perks’ side on Sunday would see them take a huge step towards FA Women’s National League football next term.
The visitors, however, will be relishing the opportunity to inflict a first league reverse on their opponents, and swing the championship pendulum back in their direction.
With Newton Abbot Spurs’ Rec once again confirmed as the home venue for this highly-anticipated encounter, the Yellow Army could well play a crucial role in ensuring home advantage helps secure three valuable points.
