WCR Group Are Backing The Gulls

Thanks to our 2025/26 back-of-shirt sponsor!

Torquay United are delighted to announce the newest addition to our first-team shirt sponsors, with Western Counties Roofing confirmed as the Club’s back-of-shirt sponsors for the new season.

Based in Newton Abbot and with offices in Wellington, Barnstaple and Bodmin WCR offer customised roofing solutions including traditional slate and tile pitched roofing, flat, metal & standing seam, architectural fabrications, complete solar systems installations and industrial sheeting and cladding – all wrapped into one package – WCR Group now employ around 300 people and have built up an enviable reputation throughout the south-west.

Passionate about bringing youth into the industry, WCR have been named in the Top 50 SME Apprenticeship Employers and boast their own designated training apprenticeship department, working with young people from a range of different backgrounds to provide them with the skills they need to get into the roofing industry.

Now, they are putting their shirts on TUFC for 2025/26!

After being officially unveiled at Plainmoor, Managing Director Dave White, Financial Director Lesley White, and Director Ben Robinson from the WCR team told us more about the company, and also about their decision to get behind The Gulls.

“Lesley and I are brother and sister, Ben is my nephew, and my father Derek started the business in the 1970s,” began Dave.

“Since our father passed away in 2001, myself and Lesley have taken it on and grown the business. Ben has been with us 20 years now and he’s the visionary of the business – me and Lesley just watch what happens really!”

“We thought it was a unique opportunity to get involved with the side. We started with a couple of boards and it’s grown from there,” added Ben.

“The Club have obviously been on the up, and it’s given us a great platform to be a part of. Hopefully, the success the team had last season continues this year, and it turns into promotion!”

WCR Group’s strong connection with football is not confined to just the English Riviera though, with the company name particularly prominent in youth development across the region. There’s also a family connection at Plainmoor too, with Ben’s son having recently joined the youth-team ranks at Torquay.

“Youth football is very important to us, and we sponsor a lot of youth football throughout the south-west. Bringing kids into football and giving them an outlet is really important, and we hope that some of the money that we’ve put into the Club goes into the youth set-up, which in turn might help the first-team in the future. The goal and the aim is to get the Club back to where it should be – in the Football League.”

Regarding the prospects for Paul Wotton’s side this term, WCR are understandably hoping their presence will help inspire United to scale new heights during the upcoming campaign.

“It looks really exciting. The new players that have come in have good pedigree and will hopefully take us to the next level. That’s what everyone wants. Paul obviously had a tough start when he arrived, having to build a squad of players, but last year was fantastic, and although disappointing in the end, we’re hoping the new players will strengthen the squad and give us that push we need.”

Everyone at Torquay United would like to place on record our thanks to WCR Group for their continued support, and we look forward to a successful new season together!
