WILSON ON DEBUT GOAL VS CHELMSFORD CITY

On-loan forward Keiran Wilson made an instant impact coming off the bench to score the opening goal and set United on the way to three points against Chelmsford on Saturday. Wilson’s 60th minute piledriver from around 25 yards was a stunner, and was pre-planned by Wilson after turning down an opportunity to shoot earlier in the game.

“I just caught it and I thought to myself “I’m gonna hit it”,” said Wilson after the game. “I had one before where I switched the ball but this time I just hit it and it went exactly when I wanted it, so I can’t really ask for much more.

“It’s my second senior goal so it is probably the best goal I have ever scored.”

United secured their fifth league win in a row against Chelmsford City, a game that was lit up by Wilson’s strike and a superb free-kick from Jordan Young.

“I really enjoyed it here today. I thought the boys grafted for the win. It was a mature performance by the team and a good debut for me.”

Wilson’s moment of magic will hopefully set him up for a successful loan from Exeter City, a move that is designed to help his development.

“I think men’s football is a big thing for me, for my development. I was doing well at Exeter but the Gaffer [Gary Caldwell] thought I needed men’s football to build my confidence up.

“I see myself developing as a striker, but obviously I’ve played on the wing my whole life so it’s probably my best position at the moment.”

“I’m buzzin’ to play at home. I played there in pre-season and I thought the fans were really good. The stadium is really nice. It’s a great club so I’m happy.”
