Torquay United’s promotion-chasing women are looking forward to returning to the pitch this Sunday, as Saltash make the trip to Coach Road to take on Ryan Perks’ team.
United’s away match against the very same opponents fell the same way as many other fixtures last weekend, with only Poole Town’s victory at home to Sherborne surviving the wet weather.
With that result ensuring that Torquay remain within striking distance of top spot, this Sunday’s full quota of matches – weather permitting of course – could prove to be a pivotal day in the 2025/26 Shield Services Group South West Regional Womens Football League title race.
Three points currently cover the top five sides, with Forest Green Rovers topping the tree with 22 points from 8 games, whilst Torquay lie in 5th-place with 19 points from a game less. Although the prize of promotion for the league winners is certainly up for grabs, with Sherborne, AEK Boco, and Poole having all played significantly more games than Forest Green and United, the destination of the championship ultimately could come down to a two-way battle between the latter two.

Returning striker Connie Pengelly will be looking forward to following up her goalscoring debut against Boco, however with Jasmine Barker and Mollie Taylor both returning to the side following recent injuries, manager Perks is now blessed with options all over the pitch.
Another recent signing, former Exeter City and MAP defender Skye MacDonald-Brown will also be looking to press her claims for a place in the matchday squad after missing out last time out, meaning that United will return to Devon HQ in confident mood.
With things being so tight at the top of the table, it’s unrealistic to think that Gulls fans and players alike won’t be keeping half an eye on results elsewhere – at least at full-time. Although AEK Boco will be strong favourites return with maximum points from their visit to bottom-placed Bishops Lydeard, an intriguing round of matches also sees Forest Green hosting Pucklechurch and Sherborne at home to Poole, meaning the league table could look very different – and more straightforward – come close of play on Sunday evening.
As ever, the Yellow Army will be warmly invite to United’s second home at Coach Road to cheer on United, whilst those unable to make it can instead listen to full live commentary via TUFC Radio from 2pm HERE
