United announce the appointment of their captain and vice-captain for 2025/26
Torquay United manager Paul Wotton has announced that Matt Worthington will skipper The Gulls for the upcoming 2025/26 campaign, whilst Sam Dreyer will continue in his role as vice-captain.
Having arrived at Plainmoor last month, 27 year-old midfielder Worthington brings a wealth of experience to the side, in addition to his strong leadership qualities.

“He’s been captain at his other clubs, and he’s a natural leader,” said Wotton.
“He sets standards in training, and I saw it as a natural choice. We have lots of candidates this year, we’ve got a lot more leaders in the squad, but ‘Worthy’ will be wearing the armband.”
In Matt’s absence, the armband will once again be passed to Sam Dreyer, after the defender fulfilled the same role last season.
“He’s maturing all the time, and he was vice-captain last year,” confirmed Wotton.
“He’s come back and he’s been great in pre-season. He’s maturing and he deserves it.”
